BSAalumni.org and Online Scrapbook Privacy Policy

This privacy policy explains how Boy Scouts of America's Alumni Web site and online scrapbook collect, use, and disclose the information of users of these sites (the "Sites").

Collecting your information
Information is collected through the BSAalumni.org and the online scrapbook Web sites . Please note that we may correlate and supplement this data with both aggregate and personally identifiable information gathered from other vendors, suppliers or local councils. Important: Boy Scouts of America is compliant with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) of 1998 and does not use its Web site to collect any personally identifiable information from children under 13 years of age. Any time we request personally identifiable information, we clearly state that we cannot accept information from children under the age of 13 years of age. Where "age' and "date of birth" is requested for submission, no information will be stored or transmitted unless the response indicates that the user is 13 years of age or older.

Information collected through our Web site
When you register on the Site(s), Boy Scouts of America collects personally identifiable information, including (but not limited to) your name, physical address, e-mail address, phone numbers, and Scouting history. We may also collect personally identifiable information through purchase forms, surveys, contests, e-mails we receive from you, and your other interactions with the Sites. When you use the Sites, we may collect a variety of technical data, which we store in both aggregate and personally identifiable forms. This data includes (but is not limited to) your IP address (a unique number that identifies your access account on the Internet), domain, and Web browser information. We may track the page you visited before coming to the Sites and the page you link to when you leave the Sites, which of our pages you access, and how long you spend on each page.

The Site(s) uses "cookies," which are small pieces of information stored on your computer. Cookies let the Site(s) recognize previous visitors to our Web pages, record a visitor's progress from page to page, and recall certain information a visitor entered previously. You can choose to decline our cookies (e.g., by setting your browser to reject cookies), but if you do, some parts of the Sites may not operate properly. We may also use tracking images and applets to collect the same information.

We do not allow third parties to collect aggregate and other anonymous information about our visitors through the Sites. Nor do we sell, trade or otherwise exchange personal information you provide with any third party, with the exception of sharing with our local councils. Finally, note that our Sites may contain inks to other Web sites. Please remember that when you click on one of these links, you are leaving BSA Web sites and entering other domains. The Boy Scouts of America is not responsible for the privacy practices or the content of these other Web sites, and encourage you to read their privacy statements (which may differ from those of the Boy Scouts of America).

Using your information
This section describes how we use and disclose the information we collect.

We use aggregate information about your behavior and computer equipment to improve the performance of the Site, and to evaluate your reaction to the content and design of the Site. We may use personally identifiable information to customize the content and layout of the Site's pages for you, to store your account information, and to record session information.

We may also use personally identifiable and aggregate information for a variety of marketing and promotional purposes. For instance, we may use what we have learned about your preferences to alert you to new areas when you return to the Site.

We do not intentionally share your personally identifiable information, except as required by law or in cases where it is necessary to share this information to investigate any incident of misuse or abuse of the Site, server, or other information systems.

From time to time we may send you e-mails related to your BSA Alumni Web accounts. At various points during your visits to BSAalumni.org and the online scrapbook, you are provided opportunities to indicate an interest in receiving e-mails about special programs and other promotional information. If you do not wish to receive these e-mails, please let us know by un-checking the "e-mail notification" request box on the Sites' registration forms. You may also opt out of this promotional e-mail list after you have registered by contacting us (using the contact information below), or by following the "opt out" instructions included in the e-mails you receive.

If you supply us with your postal address you may receive periodic mailings related to Boy Scouts of America programs or activities. If you do not wish to receive such mailings, please contact us at BSAalumni@netbsa.org. Please note that the date of your most recent opt in/out request will supersede prior requests.

Upon your reasonable request via the contact information below (and subject to our security practices), we also offer you the ability to correct inaccuracies in your contact information, financial information, unique identifiers, transaction information, and any communications that you have directed to the Sites. If you're a registered BSAalumni.org member, you can sign in and correct your personal information from the "My Account" page on the Web site.

Security
Any accounts you may have are password-protected. We recommend that you do not divulge your password to anyone. The Boy Scouts of America will never ask you for your password in an unsolicited phone call or in an unsolicited email.

We have instituted security measures in our physical facilities to protect against the loss, misuse or alteration of information that we have collected from you. In addition, we always use industry-standard encryption technologies when transferring and receiving customer data exchanged with the Sites.

Please keep in mind, however, that no data transmission over the Internet or any wireless network can be guaranteed to be 100% secure. As a result, we cannot guarantee the security of any information you transmit using the Sites, and you transmit such information at your own risk. BSAalumni.org and the Online Scrapbook further do not assume responsibility for use or disclosure of your information that are the result of unauthorized or illegal access to our systems or those of our vendors or partners.
